New 4WD track to be built
HAVING its own four-wheel-drive (4WD) track is a new and exciting concept for the Lismore 4WD Caravan Camping and Marine Show, organiser Howard Atkinson said.
"A lot of people own 4WDs, but not a lot of people take their vehicle off-road. So, being able to drive on this new 4WD track would actually be a novelty for many owners," he said.
Mr Atkinson said it was terrific that the Ballina 4WD Club had come on board to design the lay-out of the track, and supervise and run it during the Show. He said the Club was celebrating its 25th anniversary this year so it was a great time for Ballina 4WD Club to become part of the 4WD Show.
"There will be a gold-coin-donation charge for anyone wanting to be taken for a spin on the new track. And, all of that money will go the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter," Mr Atkinson said.
"And, every person who has a go on the 4WD track will go into the draw for a great holiday which will be drawn at the end of the Show."
Mr Atkinson said the new track would give local 4WD dealers the opportunity to show off their products in a great location.
"I think it will really top the Show off; you might say it's the ‘cream on the cake’. The Ballina 4WD club is very competent in designing a great track and I’m very excited about it," he said.
During the event, the 4WD Club will give demonstrations on how to get your 4WD out of a boggy situation, winching and other demonstrations to do with four-wheel-driving.
"That’s important, because that’s what the Show is all about. It’s not only to display a new car, it’s also to show people what that vehicle can do, and how it can be safer for you," Mr Atkinson said.
"The track, itself, won’t be cheap. And, because the Show is held to benefit the rescue helicopter I’d like to invite dealers or any interested persons who would like to get involved in the sponsorship of the 4WD track to contact us on 6627 4444 and discuss the opportunities we can offer.
